The Chancellor of the Exchequer has nominated Prof. David Miles CBE, Imperial College London professor and former Monetary Policy Committee member at the Bank of England, to join the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee. If the nomination is approved by the Treasury Select Committee, he would replace Prof. Sir Charlie Bean who finishes his term at the end of this year.
Richard Hughes, Chair of the OBR said:
“I am delighted that the Chancellor has nominated David Miles to succeed Charlie Bean on the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee, pending confirmation by the Treasury Committee. David is a highly experienced and greatly respected macroeconomist whose knowledge and judgement would be invaluable to our work as the UK’s official economic forecaster.”
David Miles said:
“I am very pleased that the Chancellor has nominated me to join the Budget Responsibility Committee. The work of the Committee is of great importance as the UK faces exceptional challenges after the coronavirus outbreak. Sir Charles Bean has contributed greatly to the work of the Committee. It would be an honour to replace him should the Treasury Committee wish me to do so.”
