The Chancellor has nominated Richard Hughes as the next Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility when Robert Chote ends his final term in October. The appointment is subject to approval from the TSC.

Robert Chote commented:

“I am delighted that the Chancellor has nominated Richard Hughes to succeed me as Chairman of the OBR this autumn, pending confirmation by the Treasury Committee. Richard has worked on the reform of fiscal frameworks and institutions in many countries around the world and has thought deeply about the role that bodies like the OBR can play. He was a powerful advocate for us and greater transparency at the Treasury and he knows where the dark corners are into which light needs to shine.”
