The Office for Budget Responsibility established an advisory panel of leading economic and fiscal experts in 2011 to help develop and scrutinise its work programme and methods. The panel reflects our determination to ensure that our work is of the highest analytical quality.

Since the establishment of the panel we have held annual meetings in which we have discussed the content of each of our core publications as well as the development of our working and briefing papers. The panel has provided valuable feedback on these outputs and each member has made themselves available to staff to comment on their individual areas of expertise.

Since the panel was founded Ben Broadbent has become Deputy Governor of the Bank of England and is no longer able to remain as a member. Ben has been a very valuable member of the panel, providing insightful challenge and broad experience to our discussions, for which we are extremely grateful.

We have now expanded the membership of the panel to include a wider range of experts. We have three new members, who are: Kevin Daly, Chief UK economist at Goldman Sachs; Coen Teulings, Professor of Economics at Cambridge and formerly President of the Netherlands Bureau of Economic Policy Analysis; and Jonathan Gillham, Senior Consultant at PwC.

The continuing members are Prof Wendy Carlin (UCL), Carl Emmerson (Institute for Fiscal Studies), John Llewellyn (Llewellyn Consulting), Prof Andrew Scott (LBS), Prof Peter Spencer (York and ITEM Club) and Prof Simon Wren Lewis (Oxford).
